you reach out
gently
to encircle my hand
and pull it close
and I drop my heart
into your paws.
Tiny kitten,
with your ginger face
and oversized eyes,
I’m afraid to love again.
I know the outcome
will be sad,
for I’ve been
at this crossroad
before.
But you meow,
yawn,
tiny pink tongue
peeking out,
you stretch your tiny body
and pull my hand closer,
inviting me
to risk
one
more
time.
